Author: Frances Vick
Title: Liars (title change after ARC)
Genre(s): Thriller; Psychological thriller; Mystery
Review: When I first started to read this book, I thought I had a clear picture of what would develop throughout the plot and ultimately transpire in the end. However, Frances did an amazing job at building the plot little by little to keep readers engaged until the very end. There were multiple corners I turned blindly, which is exactly what I look for when reading a psychological thriller. Additionally, Jenny's character in particular is incredibly relatable, especially in regards to the reaction she was to the loss of her mother. Losing someone you cared for is such a unique and ambiguous experience. I really enjoyed how she went through various stages of the grieving process as it made her character seem more real and vulnerable. I could never quite put my finger on David's character nor the relationship he has with Jenny. This aspect of the novel kept my curiosity flowing because I continuously wanted to know more about the dynamics between them. Overall, I found this novel to be gripping and deceitful, which again are two words I want to use when describing my thoughts on a thriller. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a contemporary thriller with a relatable and likable female lead.
